I can surely see a use to telnet information from a library emailed to one’s account, although I would always rather just ‘Google’ what I’m looking for!  I’ve also did telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl and made a screencopy, pasted it in paint, to upload here on the blog.

I can appreciate how much coding has gone into creating this program, I’m surely glad of all the new “wysiwyg” (what you see is what you get) interfaces to design.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

In this task, I’m required to download an FTP client from www.ftpplanet.com, the “free” FTP client has moved, so I have decided to try an obtain another FTP client from somewhere else. 

After searching the net, I’ve decided to try the free trial on:

http://wsftp.com/products/ws_ftp_home/try/index.aspx

 After installing the FTP clients, I then ftp to recall.curtin.edu.au, signed in as anonymous and found the file called readme.txt.  After downloading the file, I found the information to anwer the following question:

“according to the readme file, “CAPITALIZATION MATTERS”

I have previously preferred to use CUTE-FTP, but since I don’t have it on this computer installed, I will continue using the trail version WS-FTP.

First, I went to www.computer.howstuffworks.com/router5.htm to see how traceroute works.

Using the software on www.centralops.net/co/ , I traced curtin.edu.au and found that there is 20 hops with an average of 247 ms.
